Another amazing weekend at Meggernie (our 16th year)! 30 Scouts, Explorers and leaders had a weekend of great weather and activity in this stunning setting in Central Scotland.

New Unit Chairman appointed

At the first Explorer meeting of the new session, a new Unit committee was appointed. Ewan Sharp is the Chairman, and Scott Bradley will be the Shadow Chairman. Jamie Broadfoot was appointed as the Unit Treasurer.

It was another terrific week of summer camp for the scouts and explorers, this year at Great Towers Scout Camp, near Lake Windermere - a first for the 185. The weather was mixed, but it was a great week of activity, fun and friendship.

The photos are online now, and give a great idea of what the week was like.

2008 Summer camp details announced

This year’s summer camp for Scouts and Explorers will be at Great Towers Scout camp from Saturday 1st to Saturday 8th August.

Great Towers is a Scout activity centre that has some fantastic activities available, from High rope courses to archery. This summer camp will be under canvas, and will include a sightseeing day visit to Keswick. This will also be an excellent team building opportunity in preparation for our Kandersteg summer camp adventure in 2010. Anyone who is attending Kandersteg and has not attended a week long summer camp should attend this one, it’s the last chance before 2010.

Kandersteg Christmas Bag-pack

Our second bag-pack for the Kandersteg expedition will be taking place at Sainburys East Kilbride on 24th December.

Sainsbury’s is always a top fund-raising opportunity for us, so we hope for as much support from Scout, Cubs, Explorers and parents as possible.

Shifts will be of 2 hours each; 10 to 12, 12 to 2 and 2 to 4. Smart uniform is required and we ask you to wear your Scout cargo pants or kilt.

Bag-packing success

Well done to everyone who helped out at the bag packing in Tesco on 1st November, we completely exceeded our expecactions and our Kandersteg funds have had a great start.

Please keep the 24th December 2008 free for the next bag pack at Sainsburys East Kilbride. More details to follow

Meggernie 08 - photos uploaded

We’ve just uploaded some cracking shots taken at the recent Meggernie outdoor weekend for Scouts and Explorers. There were 20 in total, taking part in gorge walking, river crossing, wide games, estate walk, Samba Di Amigo, night frisbee and lots more.

Explorer Belt Challenge Norway - 2009

An exciting opportunity for 185th Explorer Scouts is announced.

Planning is underway for a proposed Explorer Belt Challenge in summer 2009, which will be jointly organised by the Cambuslang and 185th Explorer Scout Units. The Explorer Belt Challenge involves a two-week expedition travelling through another country to help participants develop a real understanding of cultures, and working within a small team of three to four explorer scouts to complete a series of projects and meet local people.

Hawkhirst Summer Camp - July / August 08

“An Amazing Adventure”

For summer camp this year the Scout and Explorer Scout sections are going to Hawkhirst Scout camp. The camp will run from Saturday 26th July 08 to Saturday 02nd August 08, Hawkhirst is located near Kielder Water in Hexham.

Hawkhirst is a UK Scout national activities centre and has fantastic activities available from abseiling and climbing to sailing on Kielder water. The older Scouts and explorers will get the opportunity to take part in a one night canoeing expedition. This summer camp will also be an excellent team building opportunity in preparation for our Kandersteg summer camp adventure in 2010.

Summer Camps 2008 - 2010

Calling All Parents, Cubs, Scouts & Explorer Scouts

The leaders will be holding a short presentation about the planned summer camps. Please come along and hear about the plans for our 2010 Kandersteg adventure in Switzerland.

Presentation details – Meet in the main hall at Burnside Church on Friday 25th April 08 @ 8:00pm. The presentation will run for around 30 minutes. Normal Scout and Explorer section meetings will resume after the presentation.

Summer Camp 08

It's all set. Our 2008 Summer camp will be held at Hawkhirst Adventure Camp. The 185 are frequent visitors to this outstanding national activity centre. With a terrific range of land and water based activities at hand, we are expecting one of our best summer camps yet.

Meggernie 07

Last weekend saw another highly successful 185 weekend at Meggernie Scout Centre. 25 Scouts, Explorers and Leaders participated in a number of activities. Highlights included the Gorge Walk, wide game, incident hike and home-pioneered assault course.

Leadership Swap for the new session

The Scout Leader and Explorer Scout leaders are swapping!

From the new session starting in August, Robbie will now be the Scout Leader, and Gordon will lead the Explorer Scouts.
